Godfrey has no recent regrets and hopes for a smoother time with Rangers

Ben Godfrey believes he will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to the Rangers defence following a turbulent couple of years since he left Everton for Atalanta.

The 28-year-old capped twice by England in 2021 joined the Ibrox club on a season-long loan from the Serie A club on the same day it emerged that goalkeeper Jack Butland could be about to depart for Hull.

Godfrey moved to Atalanta from Everton for a transfer fee in the region of 11 million in 2024 but made just five substitute appearances in Italy all in the first half of the 2024-25 campaign before loan stints with Ipswich, Sheffield United and Danish side Brondby over the past 18 months.

As he prepares to continue his career with Rangers, who have an option to buy him if the move goes to plan, the centre-back said in a Rangers TV interview: Italy was interesting. Completely different culture, a new challenge for me and the family.

I came out of it speaking Italian, which is interesting but obviously I didnt get many minutes there. But its a chapter of my life, which I dont regret.

And Denmark was brilliant for me. It was a good six months there, getting regular football, and it was a beautiful place to live. But thats all behind me. Im just excited to be back over here and ready to go. Its safe to say, obviously, the past couple of years has been turbulent.

But I dont regret anything over the past couple of years. Its made me the person and the player I am today.

Elder pens two-year Lincoln deal

Lincoln have made their first signing in the Championship, with left-back Callum Elder joining on a two-year contract after he left Derby.

Onyeka joins Coventry

Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka has joined Coventry City for an undisclosed fee.

The Nigeria international had moved to Frank Lampards side on loan in February, helping them to the Championship title and a return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.

Onyeka made 87 Bees appearances in all competitions during his five years in west London, with director of football Phil Giles saying of the player: "Frank has always shown fantastic commitment, work rate and loyalty."

Kane likely to sign new Bayern deal despite Barcelona interest

Latest from Your Site News' Michael Bridge:

England captain Harry Kane is likely to sign a new deal to extend his stay at Bayern Munich despite interest from Barcelona.

The LaLiga club are reportedly exploring how to finance a possible deal for the Bayern hitman.

But, as reported by Your Site News earlier today, it is understood that Kane and his family are very happy with life in Munich.

Both Bayern and Kane are relaxed about his contract situation, even though he only has one year left on his current deal.

And with his sole focus right now being on England at the World Cup, any developments regarding his future will not come until after the tournament.

Kane has just reached his 70th goal this season for club and country.

Kane scored 61 club goals and seven assists in 51 games in the 2025/26 season. The last player to score this many goals in all competitions was Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid back in the 2014/15 season.

Kane has won three trophies this season, including the German Super Cup, Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, as well as winning the European Golden Shoe by being the top goal scorer across Europes top five leagues.

This is his second European Golden Shoe; only a handful of players have two, and only Lionel Messi (6) and Ronaldo (4) have more.

Another medical staff member to leave amid club review

Latest from Your Site' Sam Blitz:

Arsenal's head of sports science and performance, Tom Allen, is set to leave the club as part of a continued overhaul of the club's medical structure.

The Premier League champions are currently undergoing a club review of the medical team amid an injury situation that nearly derailed their title-winning campaign last term.

Arsenal head of sports medicine Dr Zafar Iqbal has already departed, having spent two years with the Gunners. Allen, meanwhile, has been at the club since 2017.

Mikel Arteta recommended bringing in Joaquin Acedo - who is a friend of his - to help with the review, though the entire restructure has involved the entire football leadership team, which includes chief executive Richard Garlick.

Arsenal are viewing this club review as a way of not standing still and wanting to evolve, even after delivering a Premier League trophy for the first time in 22 years.

Juventus contacted Maresca before Man City appointment

Latest from Your Site News' Kaveh Solhekol:

New Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca was also contacted regarding the Juventus job.

Your Site News also understands the Italian wanted a new Chelsea contract after they won the Club World Cup, even though he had only been at the club for 18 months and was contracted until 2030.

After the Club World Cup, he switched agents to Jorge Mendes.

His Chelsea contract did not include a release clause.

Chelsea believe they have a great new manager in Xabi Alonso, who is set to start work this week with some players coming back next week.

Czech'd out! Koubek quits after World Cup exit

Czech Republic national team coach Miroslav Koubek has resigned after the team's poor World Cup showing.

The group stage exit generated harsh criticism at home over the 74-year-old's decisions during the tournament.

Koubek blamed "stupid mistakes" and exhaustion from heavy travel for his team's World Cup exit after a 3-0 defeat by co-hosts Mexico in their last match left them bottom of Group A with only one point gained in a draw with South Africa.

"A media campaign based on a number of half-truths and fabrications against me also contributed to my decision," Koubek said in a statement.

"In this atmosphere, my work for the Czech national team would no longer make sense."

Koubek took over the national team following a shock qualifying loss to the Faroe Islands and guided the Czechs through the playoffs to reach the World Cup for the first time since 2006.

Explained: Maresca's move to Man City and Chelsea's compensation

Your Site' chief correspondent Kaveh Solhekol explains more after Chelsea's explosive statement after Man City confirmed the club's former boss Enzo Maresca as their new manager.

Bids made for Aberdeen attacking duo

Latest from Your Site News' Anthony Joseph:

Tokyo Verdy and RB Omiya Ardija have made offers for Aberdeen striker Kusini Yengi.

Your Site News understands the Australia international is not keen on a permanent move to Japan.

Yengi, 27, spent the second half of last season on loan at J League Cerezo Osaka, who announced today that they will not be triggering the option-to-buy clause in the deal.

Aberdeen have also knocked back various bids for winger Topi Keskinen this month.

Its believed the offers were well below the clubs valuation of the Finland international.

A number of clubs across Europe, including OB Odense, have been credited with interest in Keskinen.

The Dons are not actively looking to sell the 23-year-old, who has two years left on his contract.
