West Ham sign Codina after Arsenal departure

West Ham have signed Laia Codina after she left Arsenal this summer, with the centre-back penning a three-year deal.

The 26-year-old won the World Cup in 2023 with Spain, as well as Champions League and League Cup titles with the Gunners. Codina also earned a number of titles while at Barcelona.

She told the club's official media: Im so happy to be joining West Ham.

West Ham is a great club and you can see the growth within the team over the last few years. I know Rita from her time in Italy and when we spoke, I was really excited by this project.

I hope to bring my experience both on and off the pitch. Coming through the Barcelona academy helped develop my composure and my decision-making, and I pride myself on my professionalism and work ethic every day. I want to help the players around me and contribute to the team in any way that I can.

Im proud of what Ive achieved so far in my career but Im really excited for whats ahead. Im looking forward to meeting the team and I feel ready for this new chapter in east London.

Wales confident Bellamy stays amid Burnley interest

A senior source at the Football Association of Wales has told Your Site News they are confident Craig Bellamy will remain national team head coach and is committed to delivering Euro 2028.

Burnley have contacted the FAW to discuss the possibility of appointing Bellamy as their manager, according to the Press Association

However, Bellamy is focused on the competition in two years, which Wales will co-host along with England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, and also the upcoming Nations League A campaign this autumn.

The FAW are understood to be aware of interest in Bellamy from multiple clubs and unsurprised he has admirers, given the job he has done since being appointed head coach in July 2024.

Burnley are looking for a successor to Scott Parker, who left the club after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed in April.

Their enquiry comes despite Bellamy recently appearing to rule out an imminent switch to club football.

Bellamy, 46, previously worked at Turf Moor as assistant boss to Vincent Kompany.

Bellamy has two years remaining on his Wales contract and prior to his side's friendly against Ghana earlier this month, he said: "Wales have given me this opportunity and I'm really grateful for that. I'm fully focused on the next two years and being Welsh manager is unique, full stop."

He added: "To be national team manager - I'm sure plenty of Welsh people and ex-players would give anything to be in this position, and the ones who have been in this position would want to be here again.

"It's an amazing time and I don't want to wish that away. And then to have the opportunity of a home nations tournament and going to the Principality Stadium - I can only imagine what the streets (in Cardiff) would be like leading into it."

Juventus' chances of signing Martinez fading

Latest from Sky in Italy's Gianluca Di Marzio:

Emiliano Martinez's chances of joining Juventus are fading because of the cost of a potential deal with Aston Villa, according to Sky in Italy.

The Serie A side made Martinez their top goalkeeper target once it became clear Alisson was staying at Liverpool, but they are now turning to other options.

Juve have been considering Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario, although they do not want to spend more than 13m (15m) for the Italy international.

If the price is too high, Juventus could look to sign Napoli's Alex Meret. He worked under Juve head coach Luciano Spaletti at Napoli when they won the Serie A title.

Spurs signed Vicario from Italian side Empoli for 17.2m in the summer of 2023. The 29-year-old has two years left on his contract.

Napoli are also keen on Vicario but need to make sales in the goalkeeper department before they can bring in the Spurs man.

If Juventus decide to sign Meret, it would open the door for Napoli to make a move for Vicario.
